Description

19th-century (circa 1850) illustrated edition of John Bunyan’s selected works, published by The London Printing and Publishing Company (London and New York).

It is commonly known as the Illustrated Edition of the Select Works of John Bunyan (sometimes dated 1850–1854 in library records, often undated in the volumes themselves but with contemporary inscriptions around 1850). It compiles several of Bunyan’s major allegorical and devotional writings in one (or two-volume) set, typically including:

• The Pilgrim’s Progress (Parts 1 & 2) — his most famous work.
• The Holy War — Bunyan’s ambitious allegory of the spiritual battle for the town of Mansoul.
• The Life and Death of Mr. Badman — a realistic “companion” to Pilgrim’s Progress, presented as a dialogue about the life of an unrepentant sinner.
